Ori and the Blind Forest
The trailer for this at Microsoft’s press conference was beautiful and heartbreaking. My first impression was that this was Child of Light design meets Pokemon style creatures. Moon Studios has developed a platformer in which you guide Ori, a guardian spirit around the forest. Microsoft describes this as a coming of age tale, and revealed a scene in which you see Ori leaving his caretaker. I seriously wanted to cry at the character’s reaction and expect this game will be an emotional one. I’m not much of an Xbox fan, but this game will definitely make me pick up one of their controllers. Will release on Xbox and PC.

Dragon Age: Inquisition
EA had me at “dragons.” Both Microsoft and EA gave us looks at the latest in the Dragon Age series. What I appreciate the most is that the fighting style is more realistic. Instead of just an enemy with stock health, you attack a leg or a head. Several characters caught my eye, including archer Sera and the mage Vivienne. If I ever get through Skyrim, this will be my next stop. Will release on Xbox, PC, and Playstation.
Hyrule Wariors
Nintendo’s presentation this morning included footage of Hyrule Warriors. Players can choose from characters including Link, Zelda, Impa, and Midna. As the game play advances, you can unlock new characters—not a foreign concept for Nintendo games (Smash Bros. and Mario Kart anyone?) but actually feels exciting in combination with the Zelda franchise. Multiplayer options make use of the Wii U gamepad so that one person is playing on screen and the other on their handheld. It releases September 26 of this year for the Wii U.

The Legend of Zelda for Wii U
Who isn’t excited for a Zelda with an open-world concept? Eiji Aonuma, producer of the Zelda series, introduced the footage with suggestions that the new game would change Zelda as we’ve come to know it. Puzzles will be affected by how you interact with the various map areas, dungeons may be completed in different orders. The world building seems to recall the very first The Legend of Zelda from 1986, the game that drove us all nuts trying to figure out what the hell to do once we picked up that blasted sword. Another plus, the art style was reminiscent of Wind Waker mixed with Skyward Sword. However, come up with a better title, Nintendo! We’ll see this on the Wii U all the way in 2015.
Other games I’m excited about: Evolve, Inside, and Super Smash Bros. (can we just have Palutena now?). And I’d also love to watch The Order: 1886, but I’d be too anxious to actually play it.
Why isn’t there anything exclusive to Playstation on my list? After a day of E3 presentations and hosting guests, I suppose I was a little tired and distracted by my 3DS during the Sony presentation. However, I still prefer the Playstation to other consoles right now and will primarily buy titles according to this bias.
