San Diego Comic-Con is now over, and speaking on behalf of those of us who experienced it from behind a computer screen, I’m left thinking, “So what?” The Big Two announced nothing new or that we weren’t already expecting. Though Comic-Con has become lesser known for comics and better known for teenage-supernatural-angst panels, even that news was lackluster. Here are my Top 3 things from this year’s SDCC. Wonder Woman Costume Debate
In the typical spirit of the internet debating pointless things, an image of Wonder Woman from the forthcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice stirred more than a few strongly-worded Tweets. Zack Snyder posted the image, and Warner Bros. released it on their Facebook page directly after the DC panel. Gal Gadot stands ready for action in—oh my!—knee-high armored boots. For the first Wonder Woman to grace any film whatsoever, she looks amazing. I want to see her crush a skull in with those killer boots. I’m more upset that she wasn’t in the teaser than what she’s dressed like.

Constantine Pilot Screening
Will the NBC cable television John Constantine be too tame? DC premiered the pilot to SDCC. Despite all of the worry over a non-smoking Constantine, all of the reviews I have read have been positive, and producers report that they will explore the somewhat ambiguous morality of the character. I won’t lie: I found my way to Hellblazer through the Keanu Reeves movie Constantine that bore faint resemblance to the comic books. While the film obviously did not stick to the facts, in many ways it stayed true to many facets of Constantine that network tv probably cannot. Even so, the cast includes Harold Perrineau (Mercutio in Romeo+Juliet), who will play Manny, Constantine’s guardian angel of sorts, so at least we know that there will be some stellar acting—if the producers can get out of his way.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2
July 28, 2017. Mark the date on your calendar. Even though audiences haven’t even seen the first Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel is so confident in the quality of its latest film (out Friday) that it has announced the release date for the second film of the series. But let’s be real—how excited did you get when you saw the first GOTG trailer? With the success and epic writing of Avengers and Captain America 2, there’s no doubt in my mind at least that Guardians of the Galaxy will continue to prove Marvel’s dominance over the superhero movie genre.
