Hey there web browsers, welcome to While You Were Sleeping. We know you've got better things to do than scour the internet for interesting or relevant things to watch, so every week I throw a couple of suggestions your way. This week I'm mostly promoting 2 new things I'm looking forward to (Batgirl and Big Hero 6), and giving you a dose of geek culture reality via Buzzfeed. Enjoy:
1. “Disney's Big Hero 6 - Official US Trailer 2” – Disney is really bringing it with the animated movies lately. When I was a kid, life was all about The Lion King, The Jungle Book, and Rescuers Down Under, but Frozen is as big as any classic from my childhood, if not bigger. Big Hero 6 was originally a Marvel comic that is very different from this Disney-fication, but the new trailer that was just released gives me lots of hope that this movie will be funny. Damon Wayans Jr. managed to sneak away from New Girl long enough to lend his voice to this, as well as T.J. Miller who I know from The Goodwin Games (a pretty funny show that was cancelled too soon) and who seems to live in the animated world (How To Train your Dragon, Gravity Falls, Frozen). I think you will definitely enjoy this when it comes out, even if you're not a kid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IdMPpKMdcc
2. “New Batgirl meets her Writer, Brenden Fletcher. MTLCC 2014” – Since the new creative team on the Batgirl series releases its first issue next month (and to annoy Amanda), here is cosplayer Mae Morrison (https://www.youtube.com/user/KesselRuns) dressed as Batgirl in her new outfit (which Mae did an excellent job recreating). Be sure to pick up the new issue of Batgirl next month which is written by Brenden Fletcher and Cameron Stewart, and drawn by Babs Tarr: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaDoef0d-Ko
3. “Things You Do In Video Games That'd Be Creepy If You Did Them In Real Life” – Video games have come a long way since Mario side-scrolling his way through the Mushroom Kingdom to get to the princess, and now we have characters that look surprisingly real such as in the new Metal Gear Solid trailer. They definitely put some work into that game. But even though games look incredible in our modern age, many of the things you do in them still wouldn't be practical in our everyday lives. Thanks to Buzzfeed, we get to see why: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3B61M60o5ts
4. “If Geek Girls Acted Like Geek Guys” – I've seen this happen (a guy talking to a girl in a comic shop like she'd mistaken it for a Charlotte Russe and stumbled in), and it's annoying to watch so I could only imagine it'd be infuriating to experience. Well, I don't need to imagine it anymore: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UohmGU-Gng
5. “DNews These Google Science Fair Discoveries Can Change the World” – Here's an addition about genius teenagers that make me look incredibly lazy, and who could potentially be rich if they managed to patent their discoveries: http://www.hulu.com/watch/690946?playlist_id=1031&asset_scope=all
Well, that's what I've got. Be sure to hit your local comic shops now to check out some cool comics like “Death of Wolverine” and the Spider-Verse comics, and those should hold you over until the new Batgirl drops.
Also, there are plenty of heroes and villains on TV these days, so be sure to tell us about your favorites. I caught the first episode of Gotham on Monday, and it's...okay. I give it a 6/10. As I tweeted earlier this week, “Gotham is alright, but I feel like every episode will leave me in constant dread of how they'll fail to make the Joker as good as Ledger.” I'll give it a couple of weeks though to see if it gets better (for me). I'm really looking forward to Arrow and The Flash premiering next week though. Feel free to leave me your opinions/suggestions in the comments. See you kids next week.
