In honor of my kitten Cloud (and at the request of a WiiRiketoPray fan), I have decided to write an ultimate cat lady post. That is right, here are my favorite five fictional cats (in no particular order):
1. Aslan – This talking lion is one of the main characters of C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia series. He is described as a giant talking lion (“aslan” is Turkish for lion—thanks Wikipedia). Even better, you kill him and he comes back to life. Aslan represents Jesus in the books, which are highly religious, but if you only take into account The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, he’s a pretty bad kitty. I’d want him on my side in any fights against evil armies.
2. Cheshire Cat – While I am a bigger fan of Lewis Carroll’s Alice books rather than the Disney Alice in Wonderland, the Cheshire Cat stands out in any version of the tale. His creepy grin and ability to appear and disappear at would make him a great friend and an even greater enemy. That’s if he even cared enough to stop spouting philosophy. And why am I so concerned about enemies right now? |
3. Crookshanks – This cat of Harry Potter fame does not have any special tricks or powers. Instead, Crookshanks has above-average intelligence for a cat. He is able to discern people who are true from those out to get Harry and his friends. Plus, his less than pleasing appearance makes others often discount his abilities and ignore him, all the while he is keenly observing his surroundings. Anyone that Sirius Black approves of is worth making a top 5 list.
4. The Entire Cast of ThunderCats – Yeah, yeah, this is cheating, but I couldn’t pick just one favorite. I watched the crap out of this show when I was younger. Each of the characters is a humanoid version of a wild cat, and they possess different powers that are unstoppable when combined. Cheetara has super speed, Wily Kit and Wily Kat employ trickster weapons, and Lion-O is the stereotypical leader with a giant sword I would like to steal. While their outfits are blindingly 80s, we all enjoyed yelling, “ThunderCats, HOOOO!” |
5. Simba – Who didn’t cry when Simba lost his dad in the middle of The Lion King? While Simba is not necessarily my favorite character, he represents one of the most iconic Disney movies of all times and is the reason that to this day I lift my animals up in the air Rafiki-style. We all owned Simba toys, wore Simba on our clothes, and knew every lyric to the songs. As our modern-day Hamlet, I could not ignore that this cat brought Shakespeare to millions of children around the world.
What fictional cats do you think should have made the top 5? Like seeing these lists? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
